‘I don’t care if she slept with 5,000 men’ — Amanda Oruh on s+xual consent

Nollywood actress Amanda Oruh has urged men to always seek a woman’s consent before engaging in s+xual activity, stressing that her s+xual history does not give anyone the right to have s+x with her without permission.

The King of Boys actress made the statement while emphasising that a woman’s body count does not invalidate her right to refuse s+x.

“I don’t care if she slept with 5,000 men; if she didn’t consent to the 5,001st man, it is a rape,” she said.

Oruh added: “You should always ask a woman for consent – men.”

In a separate reflection on marriage, the actress said she was more interested in discovering herself than searching for a soulmate.

“My death is more guaranteed than my wedding, so instead of looking for my soulmate, I’m going to look for my soul,” she said.

Oruh has also continued to attract international attention for her work in film. She recently won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting Ensemble at the Sundance Film Festival for her role as Pinky in the feature film Lady.

Born in Lagos to William Iheanyichi Oruh and Joy Uchenna Oruh, the actress developed an early passion for storytelling and has built a career spanning acting, producing and hosting.
